Three Free Agents the Los Angeles Rams Should Sign Before Training Camp

The Los Angeles Rams have wrapped up OTA’s and are preparing for training camp. Here are three current free agents they should look at.The Los Angeles Rams have wrapped up OTA’s and will now prepare for training camp. OTA’s gave us a good first look at the team, but there are still holes that could be filled heading into training camp. With many veteran players, some won’t sign contracts until training camp or the middle of training camp because it’s not something that they need like a rookie or younger player.

Here are three free agents that the Rams should consider signing as the team heads into training camp.EDGE Justin Houston
Justin Houston is still one of the more productive pass rushers in the NFL. Last season in Indianapolis, Houston had eight sacks which ranked fifth among edge defenders. The Rams need an upgrade opposite of Leonard Floyd. Ogbonnia Okoronkwo is still unproven and has just 2.5 sacks in two years. Terrell Lewis has knee issues and likely won’t play every down.

Houston may not be an every down player at this point in his career, but he would give the Rams a proven piece and a veteran presence opposite of Floyd. That’s something that the Rams desperately need or it could rear its ugly head early in the season. The former Colts and Chiefs pass rusher has the most games behind only JJ Watt with two or more sacks and could have a major impact coming off of the edge with Aaron Donald inside.

CB Richard Sherman
Seeing Richard Sherman play in horns would be very strange after his stints with both the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. Sherman had a forgettable year in 2020, but the Rams are looking for cornerback depth. Whether Sherman wants to come in and be the third or fourth cornerback, however, in unknown.

What is known is that Sherman wants to sign with a team that’s ready and competing for a championship. That describes the Rams precisely. Sherman isn’t going to be the top cornerback for a team at this point in his career, but the Rams wouldn’t need him to be with Jalen Ramsey on the roster. Sherman allowed eight receptions on 14 targets last season for 87 yards.Behind Ramsey and Darious Williams, the Rams are currently looking at David Long. In a situation of Long or Sherman, most would likely prefer the veteran defensive back as the Rams would look to get the last bit out of the future Hall of Famer.RB Le’Veon Bell
This one might not be popular among fans. I’m not saying that Le’Veon Bell should start for the Rams or even be the number two running back behind Cam Akers. When it comes to the Rams running backs, they have a solid 1-2 punch with Akers and Darrell Henderson.

However, I also don’t think the loss of Malcolm Brown should go totally unnoticed. Brown provided a veteran presence and a good third option. Last season, both Akers and Henderson missed time. Akers had a rib injury and ankle. Henderson hurt his ankle at the end of last season as well.Behind Akers and Henderson, the Rams currently have Xavier Jones. This isn’t to say that Jones can’t get the job done, but the Rams would be in a better position with a veteran running back. Bell provides rushing and receiving ability and could be the veteran presence that Brown left behind.Honorable Mentions
KJ Wright at linebacker would give the Rams a veteran option in the group. The Rams shouldn’t not sign KJ Wright simply because they’ve used two draft picks on Micah Kiser and Ernest Jones. Wright would likely come in on a one-year deal anyway.

Brian Poole is another intriguing option at cornerback. He brings versatility that the Rams need at cornerback with the ability to play both outside and in the slot. He would also give them much needed depth.Lastly, I think someone like Jurrell Casey or Sheldon Richarson would make a lot of sense on the defensive line. The Rams cut Michael Brockers in the offseason. Casey or Richardson would give the Rams a veteran presence until Bobby Brown is ready in year two.
